After Daniel Craig was announced as the 6th James Bond, a web site was created that is attempting to encourage fans to “boycott” the film. It gave Craig critics a voice and was highly publicised by major news outlets.

The fans who supported Daniel Craig had no consolidated place where they could voice their support of Craig and their confidence in him. Because of that, it appeared to some as though the majority of fans didn't favour Craig as James Bond.

This site is here to prove them wrong. Show your support.

    Dear Mr. Craig,

You were great in Road to Perdition and Layer Cake. And those two were so different from one another.

I believe you will be a great James Bond, particularly as Casino Royale promises to be a relatively realistic thriller. I'm sure you could do a cartoonish Bond, but it wouldn't give you as much chance to impress.

    Dear Daniel:

You need to know that you have a large, loyal fanbase, who believes in you and the quality work you do, and who believes whole-heartedly that the Powers-that-Be chose the "right guy for the right job" when they chose you to be the "new James Bond." We don't make this assertion lightly, without evidence to support it: We know of and we have seen your talent on display in the films you've done and the television series you've been in and we are convinced that you are a phenomenal actor, rightly selected to fill 007's shoes, and those who say otherwise don't know what they're talking about.

I know that sometimes it's easier said than done, but you need to put the naysayers out of your mind. Don't read what they say, don't listen to what they say. If the media tries to stir up a hornet's nest by asking you about the "criticism" (which, in my mind, is people spouting off just because they can - I mean, really - just because you have blonde hair and blue eyes, you can't play James Bond? Puhleeze!), change the subject: These idiots aren't worth your time and effort. As one of my friends says to his son, "Don't let them live rent-free in your head." The only person whose opinion matters is you.

I know where I'm going to be on November 17, 2006: on line at the ticket window waiting for my chance to see you in Casino Royale.

On the Dedicated to Daniel fansite's message board, I'm known as "Dublin Rose," but you can call me Linda, a staunch Daniel Craig fan from New Jersey, USA.

Just want to show my support and enthusiasm for Daniel Craig and Casino Royale.

Daniel has true talent and is the perfect man for the job. Many 007 fans like myself were growing tired of the childish nature of recent 007 films. Daniel has the presence and intensity to truely bring Ian Flemings vision to it's definitive form!

    Daniel,

I just know that you'll rock in Casino Royale, and most likely be our best Bond to date. You've been working very hard to bring us the best movie possible and trust me, we all appreciate it.

The press and some of the "so-called" Bond fans have been really hard on you, but what can you do about it other than prove them all wrong? I'm sure they'll all be eating crow in the end. You are the best if not one of the best actors of your(and my)generation. Just ignore the naysayers and keep on doing your thing. WE SUPPORT YOU! Thank you for your hard work and dedication!

    Sincerely,

    Michelle R.

As a long time Bond fan having seen every film "live" since Thunderball, I would say this to Daniel Craig:

The vast majority of Bond Fans in the UK and the rest of the world are itching to see Casino Royale from November 17 and are keen to see you take up the role of James Bond.I for one am trying to get to the Premiere.

The Bond marque or brand is so big that there are bound to be voices of dissension when there are changes, and in particular to the actor taking on the role of James Bond. However, bad news seems to rise to the top and can appear to the voice of the majority. That is not the case!

Barbara & Michael know that with you in the lead role, Casino Royale, will be another blockbuster at the box office, so have no fears, ignore these noises, cause that is all they are.

As my good friend, zencat, said here in another thread .... Daniel should spend some time on CBn and listen to the real fans. He is correct. You should do this.

READ MY LIPS : NO MORE EXCUSES

I am proud to say that I am looking positively to the success of Casino Royale and to your personal success in the role of James Bond !

    Mr. Craig -

when the first rumours came up that you may be cast as the new James Bond (a good while before the actual announcemet), my feelings were reserved - as it usually is with the "new kid in town".

As a long time Bond fan, I've seen many changes in the series - not all for the better - but "you can't please them all" as they say. I've always kept an open mind, and everything I've seen, heard and read about yourself and "Casino Royale" until then has convinced me that you're absolutely the right choice for the role. I'm truly looking forward to your approach on it in this movie and many more Bond movies to come.

Here's to a long and successful tenure as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007.

    I'm your fan,
    Heiko

This is a nice little initiative CBn. Well firstly, one way we can all support Craig is seeing the film. Secondly, if Craig does check these messages of support he'll hopefully feel a bit more relaxed in the role, come Bond 22. He already had enough pressure on him, without having to deal with rubbish from the press and rubbish from so called fans. Without seeing him in the role no one can really tell how he'll do in the role, however I'm excited as hell with the film. Craig was brilliant in Layer Cake and I've no doubt he'll be brilliant in Royale. One final thing...there's no doubt the majority of the Bond fan base is behind Craig and that in fact those 'boycotting' are nothing but a minority. This is a big call, but Dalton is currently my favourite Bond and if Craig infuses his intensity with the Dalton-like dark approach then I may well have a new favourite Bond come 2007.

I just want to say that I'm thrilled that someone with real edge and charisma has been given the part of James Bond.

I always remember how, months before Daniel Craig was even connected to the part, my mum came out of a screening of Layer Cake and said "Do you know, I think he would make a great James Bond".

Come November, I have a feeling she's going to be proved right.

I have to admit that when I first heard your name bandied around as a candidate to replace Brosnan I didn't think you were appropriate for the role, but after watching LAYER CAKE I was amazed how cool you were- like Steve McQueen. Whether 'McQueen cool' is appropriate for 007 or not I'll get to find out, come November. In the meantime from I what I've seen so far of CASINO ROYALE I have a feeling I'll be satisfied. As Bond, always remember to keep a sense of humour. I can't wait for November. I wish you the best of luck.

    Dear Mr Craig,

Ever since I've seen you on Layer Cake, you blew me away with your charisma and versatility in acting. I can truely see why you were chosen as the next Bond. Casino Royale was made to fit only you. There are fans like us out there who believes and have faith that you will revive the dying bond franchise. It's been a very long time since we have seen the perfect bond to Fleming's novels. The first Bond that awed me was Sean Connery. However, I firmly believe that he won't be the last one and you will definitely shine as James Bond and be on par with him. Your redefinition of Bond will irradiate life and humanity into Bond once again.

Wishing you all the best for Casino Royale and Bond22,

I think you are an excellent actor and will make a great Bond. However I do have one problem with you. You need to see past all the so-called fans who pick a different attribute of you every week to criticize you for. First it was 'He's blond.' and now they're basically onto 'He has an enlargened left foot. That makes him so ugly' These people are morons and do not speak for a majority of Bond fans. We want a gritty Bond who you would want to meet in a dark alley at night.

My only advice for you is to check commanderbonnd.net out, and start to look at the stupidity of whoever runs craigisnotbond.com. Stick with it and don't give up.

Daniel is going to prove everyone wrong, he is the man for the job. Why shouldn't we have a blonde Bond? I think he's got the looks, the physique and the talent for the role of James Bond, and i think a lot of people will be surprised when they actually see the film. I've got most of Daniel's movies on DVD, he's my favourite actor, and i'm over the moon he got the part of Bond. He is one of the most talented actors around, he can play a variety of different types of character and whatever he's given he manages to pull off. He's just amazing, and all these people who think he's not up to it are going to be sorry they said anything against Daniel once they see the film.

    My dear Mr. Bond/Craig,

The fans of the James Bond phenomena, of which I'm one, have long been served a certain type of Bond (usually suave, sophisticated, and detached); then the producers threw everyone a curve ball, and decided to change, before change was forced upon them.

Thankfully, they realized it was time to go in a new direction -- your direction. While this has made some in the fan base (if you're to believe craigisnotbond) outraged, I think Ms. Broccoli and Mr. Wilson are doing the right thing. While enjoying (overall) Die Another Day, I saw that Pierce Brosnan was getting too old to be a believable Bond (time waits for no man). In the audio commentary, on the DVD, he spoke of coming up lame, while filming the opening scene (supposedly in the DMZ in North Korea), and he was simply running. Now I know this could happen to anyone, but I feel that age most certainly played a part. For me, the idea age for an actor portraying Bond is between 35 to 45 -- anything after that -- is stretching the boundaries of my ability to suspend disbelief. After such a great stand as Bond, I didn't want to see Brosnan go the way of Roger Moore, and make his version of A View To A Kill -- but enough about Mr. Brosnan's shortcomings as a contemporary Bond.

After hearing that you were under consideration for Bond, I made a point in checking out Layer Cake (after ready seeing you in Sylvia, The Mother, The Road to Perdition, and Tomb Raider) -- you were simply marvelous! Layer Cake is such a complex character study, and really holds up well with repeated viewings -- great job!! After seeing what you've done to your body, in preparation for Bond, I say, Bravo! That's something no prior actor, expect Sean Connery and George Lazenby to a lesser extent, has brought thus far to Bond -- the physicality that translates into a viable lethal threat. That's refreshing, that's dedication, that's Bond! Oh, and by the way, I agree with Martin Campbell, you are the best actor to ever tackle to role. Case in point, after having seen you all the aforementioned films, I didn't realize until you'd been mentioned as a Bond candidate as the same actor in all those films -- now that's talent! After what's been shown thus far in the teaser, and the stills taken from Casino Royale, I am eagerly awaiting November -- good luck!!!

I was never more excited about Bond, however, until you were announced as the next. Each previous actor brought something interesting to the role, but I honestly think that when all is said and done, you'll be up there as the best Bond of all time (the excellent Connery notwithstanding).

Ever since I saw the official teaser poster, I've thought Daniel Craig was the perfect choice to play Bond. He just looked so cool, so sauve, so gritty. Not to mention that cold stare that says, 'I could kill you.' And thats the thing. I thought to myself when i first saw it, Finally they got a guy as Bond once more who does look like he could kill you!

More pictures and the first teaser trailer have further cemented Daniel Craig as James Bond to my eyes. The recent Entertainment Weekly cover, the dark Japanese teaser poster, the fantastic videos on the official site and best of all, the thread in the CBN forums titled: I was an extra in CR... They all have me pumped up to see what I am sure will be one of the best Bond films ever.

    Hi Daniel,

I just want to send you my full support and hearty congratulations, as i eagerly look forward to your first outing as James Bond in Casino Royale. I am also thrilled that Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have already signed you for Bond 22, due May 2nd, 2008. I fully echo their confidence in you that led them to move ahead so soon with the next film. I admit that I didn't know much about you as actor when you were first chosen as Bond #6, but after seeing MUNICH, any doubts or concerns that I might have had melted away.. I am convinced that you will be the best Bond since Sean Connery!! It'll be great to have a tough, gritty and relistic James Bond again, something we haven't had since 1989's Licence to Kill.. As regards those rediculous nay-sayers and negative idiots at CraigNotbond.com, SCREW Em'!! Sadly they want to cause a huge uproar over your casting without even seeing the film first.. Any TRUE Bond fan would at least have the decency to see Casino Royale before making any judgements!! So again, here's a two thumbs up and a huge congratulations from me on becoming a fantastic James Bond!!

    Hey Daniel.

Since you have taken over the role of James Bond you have faced severe criticism by fans, "fans" and the media.

It is typical that criticism is always louder than praise. Criticism (especially unfounded) hurts. Thus, I am astonished how you have handled the situation. Did it function ?

Maybe I am absolutely blind, but browsing several international forums, I feel and felt a change of hearts. While in the beginning, I had to defend my high opinion of yours - today, those who are not satisfied with the choice of Bond have to.

I have many friends who are really looking forward to the new movie, who ask me when the release date is, who are impressed of what they have seen so far. The pro-Craig brigade is growing and this is your best achievement.

I love what I have seen so far, I rate Casino Royale as my favourite Bond flick (maybe this is unfounded judgement as well) and I am feeling the thrill of getting something new on the silver screne.

Just the two cents of a die-hard Bond fan.

Big thanks for everything you have already given and for whatever you will give to the series.

My name's Axworthy, Charlie Axworthy - I'm a 30+ year Bond fan and a Team member of the Fan based website commanderbond.net.

As the film series has gone on for 44 years, we've come to expect the inevitable "Changing of the Bond" and while everyone certainly has their favorite or ideal 007, we can't doubt the powers that be. I'll confess, I'd never really heard of Daniel Craig, yet I felt after the massive search and testings, that I'd leave it to BB and MGW to make the final call. They did and it went from there. I think Craig (for all the unfair and harsh criticism he received) has taken it in stride and being quoted as saying "I wanted to do the best I could" rather than being defeated is a great testament to both him as an actor and the mantle he's inherited.

I hope he continues to be 007 for years to come. It's a breath of fresh air in a series that was sadly becoming a bit stale. The film, cast, director all know what an infusion of energy they are delivering and must deliver both for the movie goers and we hard core Bond fans. If anyone has ever epitomized the "British stiff upper lip" it's Mr. Craig. Knock 'em dead Daniel. Cheers.

...and if you'd like any of the naysayers "knocked dead" after you and Casino Royale have made them eat their words, give me a call. First pints are on me!

It is hard not to be excited about Daniel Craig as James Bond. Whenever I see pictures or read articles about Casino Royale I get really hyped. It is obvious that they are finally trying to move away from the lackluster action films we received in most of the Brosnan era. While they were good they lacked the freshness of the superior films from early in the franchise. I hope that Daniel Craig will bring some freshness back to the franchise that has been missing.

Daniel Craig may not be the conventional choice for the Bond character I believe he will be strong in the role. After seeing him in films like Layer Cake, Munich, The Jacket, and Tomb Raider I can see that he will bring a more rugged feel to Bond moving away from the male model look of previous Bond actors.

It is a very exciting time. While we cannot be sure about how Casino Royale will turn out, I am happy to see that they are taking risks with the franchise and I fully approve of the choice of Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's James Bond and look forward to seeing him this fall in Casino Royale.

I am of those out there are others wh are making it their "duty" to relentlessly break your spirits, but you know something? For me, this is one hell of time to be a Bond fan! I have never been so excited about a James Bond film in years! And I say this with all honesty, confidence, and conviction: you are doing a fantastic job and there is no one else I can envision in your shoes at the moment. The fact that you are taking all of the criticism in stride has earned you my (along with other supporters) respect. Thanks largely to you and the production team, my interests in the James Bond franchise has peaked at an all time high. Being a young professional actor, you truly are an inspiration to not only myself, but to those who are also on a similar path. And for those so-called "Bond fans" over at CnB, they ought to be ashamed of themselves, because surely they do not see what everyone else sees: a man that has done the character of James Bond some much needed justice and made Ian Fleming proud. Thank you.

    To Daniel Craig,

You can clearly see you do in fact have a hell of a lot of support from fans, there are some who are being very nasty and negative yes, but they are in fact a minority. They happen to be very loud, and as has been said the press loves that negativity, but the huge positive reaction from fans toward both your casting as 007 and the direction of the films now is never mentioned.

Most fans adore the idea, personally I was completely amazed when I finally found out what was being done with Casino Royale. Incredibly bold move to go back to Fleming and the classic character driven, darker 007. A hard boiled, dangerous Bond who's so interesting because of that, polished over with the worldly knowledge and smooth Englishness. This is why I like Bond and it's what makes him different, not just a smarmy playboy in a dinner jacket loving himself and making jokes. The humour needs to be darker and dry again, sly witt. "It's a Smith and Wesson...and you've had your six", for example, amazing Bond scene (Dr No).

I think you're a bloody superb actor and we all trully appreciate the effort you are putting into Bond, the character and the style of the piece. Please keep it up and I hope you do more films to come, sincerely.

    Warmest wishes,

To Mr. Craig, or is it Bond? I'm a little confused.

I am just a humble Bond fan and want to let you know that you do have my support. November can't come soon enough and there are millions out there around globe who are excited and looking forward to Casino Royale and more importantly your debut as 007. I know you have said to reserve judgement but I already know we are in for something very special.

Daniel, you are an excellent actor. Sorry I did not hear of you before you were cast as Bond, but after the casting was announced I proceeded to see most of your movies. Layer Cake I watched about six times. Excellent.

You have unbelievable range as an actor. I do love Bond movies, but am not a teen. I am in my late thirties, and refused to watch the Bond movies as they became more and more cartoonish and ridiculous. Bond does need a reboot.

Mr.Craig, understand that it is a very small percentage of people who are making a lot of noise about you being cast as Bond. I believe this will be one of the best Bond movies ever. This is from a woman who had given up watching Bond movies.

Anyone who has seen Layer Cake and the steely look in the eyes of Daniel Craig know that he is the right man at the right time for the James Bond franchise. The series has not lasted through time based on spectacular explosions and far - fetched gadgetry, it is because the character of James Bond is complex and deep; he posesses inner demons that I feel Daniel Craig can express on the big screen while still maintaining the charm and mannerisms of the character. James Bond needs a change and James Bond needs an actor that can look into the soul of the character. James Bond needs Daniel Craig.

Daniel is an amazing choice for the role - he's different to the others that have gone before, but that is a good thing! I'm convinced that his portrayal will have all the charisma and confidence of James Bond. Can't wait to see the film! As for the critics (if you can dignify their juvenile closed minded whining with that name) - "screw 'em". It's what Bond would say.

    Dear Daniel Craig,

Here are some predictions that I have total faith in: Casino Royale will be the best Bond movie ever made. It will break four million bucks. And both the film and you will win richly deserved Oscar nominations.

Time Magazine should give serious thought to making you Man of the Year. You've survived a long siege of abuse from hateful little half-wits and timid traditionalists. And you've survived it all with courage, dignity, calmness and wit. The last time anyone's witnessed this level of fan insanity was when Bob Dylan went electric.

You too have dared to do something radically different. And the world will come around to you. Meantime, gird yourself to give 'em hell once again in Bond 22. And in whatever other films your dark Muse urges you to take.

You're the real deal, mister. And, having been wowed by your mettle, I'll see any film you make.

    Wit gratitude,

    Nick Mercurio, USA

    Dear Mr. Craig,

I have a strong feeling that come the end of your tenure as Bond, you, Daniel Craig, are going to be the Bond to beat. Something tells me that Sean Connery either needs to move aside or make some room up on top!
